Kitchen cleaner and news paper works wonders when the windows get dirty.

Got the 'new' laptop now so can work on uploading the SJ video soon.

It's an old'ish HP Elitebook refurbished lappy.  Bit of a brick, but pretty impressive machine.

Has been fitted with an SSD which is pretty good and new battery along with a clean windows 10 install.

Well after getting the new laptop setup the fookin thing has got a thick (approx. 2 inch) purple band running along the bottom of the screen  >:(

I plugged in my external monitor through the HDMI and it showed the display perfectly, so the graphics card is fine and looks like it's a feck up in the screen itself.

Fook sake, just copied all my stuff off the old HDD and now have to send the fecking thing back.

Will see if they'll go for refund and i'll wipe my stuff off and send it back.  They may suggest to replace the screen but don't see why I can't get a refund through Amazon.

If you set fire to them they make very good torches.

That could be dangerous. Hope you've thought about extracting the smoke?

Working from home today to take delivery of the new lappy.

Just got it set up, not a bad one at all for the price :)

Also got the old hard drive fired up and all works ok which is a relief.  Most was backed up anyway, but had a few recent things like the cars backup maps etc that I really didn't want to lose.

As an upside to the old lappy blowing up, I dismantled the battery pack and got 8 x 18650 batteries out of it, so have ordered a power bank case off Amazon for 2 quid that you load up with 5 of them and makes a good USB power pack to take camping etc :)

Then 3 left over for the odd torch or something.

Yeah I decided to give up on Linux ages ago.

Once Windows became relatively stable (never had a problem since moving away from XP) I've found Linux too much hassle trying to find alternatives to the regular software that simply works straight off the bat with Windows.

I could do without the usual half hour start up that windows has but a minor pain for the ease of the rest of it.

Forgot we're talking about windose here.
I can drop my Linux had into any case (non uefi) and it will work.

you could just clone your old hard drive.

Why would you want do that?
1. if the original hard drive just works, you can continue..
2. I wouldn't want to pop a cloned drive into a completely different hardware configuration.

I've got Win Doze 10 on my work phone and hate it.
My son has it on his laptop and loves it.
