These are in MCN this week. Tested in Danish bike cops at 70mph head on and at 45 degrees. No probs by all accounts.

But don't they go down for emergency service vehicles?

:eh  Now, would this be an idea by  Dunlop trying to introduce alternative traffic calming measures out of the goodness of their hearts on the grounds of road safety, to protect us from persons travelling in excess of speed limits, or, as i see it, a money making exercise, to fleece local councils (beg pardon, i mean council tax payers!), as a way of "modernising" traffic calming.

Blimey, they look feckin dangerous :shock. Ruin people's shox, catch them off gaurd and cause more accidents. Say it's one of those silly 30mph speed limit signs that are about a mile away from the village, so you start slowing down to do 30 when in the village, and then one of these pops-up.

Gonna cause more accidents than they save :shock :shock :bonkers :bonkers

....And then they go down for the emergency services coz of transponders, so people are just gonna make illegal transponders of the right frequency. I have a friend at school who could make them :roll

Yes, hot on the heels of the Hughes Research energy generating ramps we now have the traffic calming ramp from Dunlop Transcalm. I have Trevor Baird at MAG to thank for this tipoff, here's the copy of his email:

"We have also  just  come across another ramp at:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1867157,00.html

www.transcalm.com

http://www.pneumaticsonline.com/Articles/NorgrenArticle091801.html

Our regional rep in London is going to have a look today, more to follow on this.

Cheers

Trevor.B "

Thanks go out yet again to MAG and Trevor in particular.

Transcalm say:

"The Transcalm contains a patented valve that allows a rubber housing to deflate when it is crossed by a vehicle travelling within the safe speed range. The device does not deflate if a vehicle is exceeding the safe speed, resulting in a road-hump like jolt but one which does not damage the vehicle."

I for one will be following this carefully with MAG.
