Never been a huge fan of metal and 'hard' rock due to 'Progressive' boring the tits off me. So pre-punk pub rock and punk, reggae etc. got me BUT there's some good stuff, SOAD got me back in to the harder rock, bit of Screamo and I like it. SOAD have good music though, inventive, love it :) Chop Suey is my top track for SOAD.

I'm more into blues/rock to be honest, but I do like a bit of heavier stuff now and again.

If you want something that is really quirky try Dog Fashion Disco.  Hard to categorise but ranges from bouncy horn based stuff to metal and everything in between - stated as "Avantgarde, Acid Rock, Experimental, Ska".

Unfortunately their best Albums (IMO) "Ad Nauseum" and "Erotic Massage" got pulled from Amazon Prime Music, but a lot is on the Tube of You.

Yup, punky & funky and ahead of everyone else - the "break" is like what "heavy metal" was doing late 80's / 90's - intense and energetic. Like it.

Absolute radio 70s ...i end up listening to stuff that I would never normally even think of, changing my views on many bands...some I can't believe I liked, but sound rubbish now, and stuff I hated but think is great now...

...i must be getting old  :o

So back in the day there was a band called Death and they were really pre-punk punk type rock and roll crossover. I remember one track called Freakin' Out that was out at the time, well pre-punk like back in the days of when listening to John Peel got you all sorts of fantastic music.

Anyway, last week I was talking to an American guy about music and he said he liked Death, not Napalm Death, just Death and I thought bloody hell, blast from the past... so I was going on about pre-punk Death and he was along for the ride then said... Not that's not them, his Death band were Death Metal pioneers Death and they didn't have any black guys in it where my Death were all black guys.

I didn't know about his Death and he knew nothing about my Death which was really weird. So yesterday I was feeling crap and lethargic so did a bit of research on my Death.

They were a family in Detroit, pater was a minister. Of the kids, three started a band and David Hackney was the driving force behind the band who refused to join in the Motown craze and did his own Rock/Punk music with his two brothers. I guess for the same reason Parliament never really took off, they were too far off the mainstream - But their music was unique and it still is if you ask me.

They split up, David keeping writing his style and music going but to himself not gigging or anything - Bobby and Dannis went off to do Christian Rock and later more successful with Reggae.

Just after a wedding David told his mum she'd better prepare for one of her sons to die, he gave all the studio tapes to his brother and telling everyone (again) that this music would one day be big. Then he died (lung cancer) and everyone got on with their lives, cleaning during the day meant Dannis could play at nights etc. kids came and life went on.

The kids formed a band called Rough Francis and they found out about the Death studio tapes and started doing the songs, it's good stuff:

So Death were back on the map without David but even got back in the recording studio, Rough Francis do covers from time to time and even Amazon has a film about them called A Band Called Death which I've just watched and it's bloody good. They even have a Arseface page https://en-gb.facebook.com/DeathPunkFromDetroit/

Have a listen, I think they're a bit special hence the protracted post, what do you think?
