A few additions have now been made to the bike:

Xeon headlight bulb and Xeon LED sidelight bulb
Standard White Mud Guard (bought it cheap on E-bay not realising it was Ex-Police with markings)
Panniers rack

I desperately want to try the new 700 Trans Alp and intend getting a test ride next week. 


A mate of mine has just bought one, and is relly pleased with it.

He did say that there was a bit of a whine coming from back of the bike, but he is not bothered........















It's his misses complaining that the pillion seat is not as comfortable as his old Varadero  :lol

It's that bike that did it for me.


22 years after giving up my Honda 400 four,  I  hired a bike..CB500 for starters, then the TransAlp.  It was the first trail style bike I've ridden, but I found it easy and great fun.  And the riding position was a revelation, which is how come I started looking at the upright bikes...ended up with my TDM900.

I desperately want to try the new 700 Trans Alp and intend getting a test ride next week.   I loved that Transalp, I ended up hiring at 6 or 7 times, it holds a place in my heart  :love

He loses control and parts company with the machine flipping the bike and ending up on his ar5e [filtered] skidding towards oblivion across the road, onto the gravel/rocky run off and toward the mountain roads edge and the 300ft drop to the ravine.... He stops with his feet over the edge and the Tranny a few feet behind him still upside down. Impressive stuff.

Now if thats not a brown pant moment I don't know what is.

I can comment on their crash "survivability"

15 years back me on my XTZ and a mate on the Transalp do a run down to Barcelona (via the Alps) and across to Menorca for a week. On the way back through the Alps (we did the Pyrenees too) we started the days ride as usual by building up the speed (fully loaded bikes, cold tyres, tight roads, etc) when he started pulling away from me. That's normally a cue for me to start racing, but I backed off and let him go. Next right he turns in late and as I round the bend (I am at times) I see him using a Renault 25 as armco/berm and watch him enter an almightly tankslapper... He loses control and parts company with the machine flipping the bike and ending up on his ar5e [filtered] skidding towards oblivion across the road, onto the gravel/rocky run off and toward the mountain roads edge and the 300ft drop to the ravine.... He stops with his feet over the edge and the Tranny a few feet behind him still upside down. Impressive stuff. He sustained a lot of bruising/scratches to his ar5e [filtered] and hands, but the Tranny survived with broken clocks, a scratched/scored tank and busted screen/mirrors and levers.

It's easy to ride. Just a tad heavy to push when in tight spaces. Only problem I have is the Rethal bars catch the touring screen so you don’t get full steering lock.

The TA is A LOT bigger/heavier than my old Hyosung. But as a first big bike I can’t fault it. The riding position is up right so you don’t get pain on the wrists or back on long rides but you do get a numb bum since the one major design fault Mr H didn’t look into was a comfortable soft seat for the TA. Also the TA won’t be setting the world on fire with its acceleration or top speed and can get up to 100mph with a lot of effort but it gets very uncomfortable and feels unsteady above 80mph due to the upright position getting caught but the wind from every direction. But then this bike was never designed to be a motorway cruiser. As for a town bike it excels since it has lots of low end torque and gearing so great in traffic and on hill climbing I expect would be good on filtering as well but with the wider Rethal bars fitted it does make that a tad more difficult. These bikes are built to last and stand up to a few knocks as I have found out recently. To be honest I like the big size and odd looks and can see me keeping it for a few years or more yet.
