The May's are the political equivalent of Doug and Dinsdale Piranha.

There's a tuned 2 litre ztech engine going in it. Some sort of time trial slalom course thingy.
From what I can gather it's like a gymkana for cats.

Big thing about ecoboost is all the paraphernalia/design to go with the fact it's DI when going kit/homebrew car. Or that's what I've read anyway.

Sounds like he's building a "locost".

Could be really good fun if it's done well - basically a rear engined kit car  :)

I'd look for an ecoboost though to be honest if he could find one for a decent price.  Zetec don't make amazing power for the capacity compared to recent ecoboosts.

Ford have really got some poke out of their recent engines and really impressive tuning capabilities.  If he stuck the 1.6 from a Fiesta ST in and mapped it, he could easily get 300 bhp from what is a relatively small engine.

That said, a zetec probably is a fraction of the cost so would probably be a big factor in choice.

I'd even consider going for a bike engine - whack a hayabusa or ZZR14 engine in it with a turbo  ;D
